History
The idea of a machine to cut grass was conceived in Gloucestershire (England) on 1830 by freelance engineer Edwin Beard Budding. Budding formerly a carpenter in Chalford, possibly inspired by the rotary cutter designed to cut the nap of the wool woven in the mill Brinscomb. Budding’s mower was designed primarily to cut grass for sports grounds and expansive gardens as a superior alternative to the scythe.
